NORFOLK, Va. (AP) ? A former Peace Corps worker who taught at a girl's school in rural Uganda told a military jury in Virginia on Monday that a sailor who does construction work for Navy SEALs raped her multiple times in his hotel room in the East African country's capital.

The trial comes months after Congress responded to complaints that the Peace Corps hasn't done enough to protect its volunteers from sexual assaults with legislation requiring the agency to better train participants in how to avoid such attacks.

The 27-year-old woman, who now lives in Washington, testified in a courtroom at Naval Station Norfolk that her sexual encounter with Petty Officer 2nd Class Camaren Walker in November 2010 started out as consensual.

But after his condom came off twice, she said she wanted him to stop.

She said she tried to push Walker off her, but that he grabbed her throat and held her against the bed. She said he later raped her in the shower when he put her in a choke hold and that she feared she might drown. She said he didn't have to force himself on her the next two times ? including once when his roommate was in the next bed ? because she was afraid for her life.

Walker's military attorney said the case was simply about a woman who regretted her decision to have sex because she was embarrassed by her behavior. As part of her job, the woman taught girls to avoid peer pressure and to use condoms.

"This is not a case about rape. This is a case about regret," said Lt. Lauren Mayo.

The accuser said that she and Walker had met an Irish pub while she was out with three other Peace Corps volunteers who were in town for a conference. She said she voluntarily went back to his hotel room with him.

Mayo said she didn't mention to any of her friends the next day that she had been assaulted. One of her friends said she thought it was 'kinky' that the sex was rough and that he had choked her.

"That was my night of hell," the woman later recalled thinking during the exchange.

The Associated Press does not generally identify alleged victims of sexual assault.

It wasn't until days later when she saw a medical worker about emergency contraception that the word rape came up, and only when the medical worker mentioned it, according to courtroom testimony.

Mayo also said that the woman didn't do anything to stop Walker, such as scream, slap him or try to leave the hotel room.

"You didn't do anything to stop him, did you?," Mayo said to the woman, who simply responded "No."

In April, during a procedure that is similar to a preliminary hearing in civilian court, Walker's attorneys had suggested that charges were only being brought forward due to political pressure. The Peace Corps had been under criticism for not doing enough to protect is volunteers from crime, particularly sexual assault. In May, Peace Corps Director Aaron S. Williams appeared before a Foreign Affairs Committee hearing to apologize for the agency's shortcomings on volunteer safety issues

In November, Congress passed a bill requiring the Peace Corps to develop sexual assault risk-education and response training. The legislation also requires the agency to establish a victim's support office.

Walker's trial is tentatively scheduled to last through Friday.

According to market research firm NPD, that category now includes both tablets and laptops -- and by that definition, Apple is unsurprisingly way ahead of its competitors. Based on its preliminary numbers, Apple shipped 23.4 million mobile PCs in the fourth quarter of 2011 (nearly 80 percent of which were iPads), which was enough to snag a market share of 26.6 percent (and keep it in the top spot for the year). In contrast, the four companies rounding out the top five relied almost entirely on laptops to fill their numbers, with HP coming in at just under a 10 percent market share, followed by Dell, Acer and Lenovo. Looking just at laptops, however, HP comes in first with a 15.5 percent market share, while Apple falls to fifth with just over eight percent. When Paula Symons joined the U.S. workforce in 1972, typewriters in her office clacked nonstop, people answered the telephones and the hot new technology revolutionizing communication was the fax machine.

So, five years from the age when people once retired, she laughs when she describes her future plans.

?I?ll probably just work until I drop,? she says, a sentiment expressed, with varying degrees of humor, by numerous members of her age group.

Like 78 million other U.S. Baby Boomers, Symons and her husband had the misfortune of approaching retirement age at a time when stock market crashes diminished their 401 (k) nest eggs, companies began eliminating defined benefit pensions in record numbers and previously unimagined technical advances all but eliminated entire job descriptions from travel agent to telephone operator.

Steer attacks instructor at Ohio vocational school (AP)

SHELBY, Ohio ? Officials at a northern Ohio vocational school say a steer attacked a veteran instructor during a meat processing class, and students reacted quickly by closing a gate to block the animal and calling 911.

WJW-TV in Cleveland ( http://bit.ly/x5dloJ) reports that Bill Kucic (KOO'-sihk) was leading the 1,200-pound steer to be put down when it turned on him in a chute and flipped him into the air last week at Pioneer Career and Technology Center in Shelby.

The school's superintendent says Kucic hit his head and suffered broken bones and cuts. He was taken to a Columbus hospital, where he was in fair condition Thursday.

Investigators say the chute or students' voices may have spooked the steer. It was later killed.

The school is considering changing how livestock are brought to slaughter there.

Memorial service set for Joe Paterno in Harrisburg (AP)

HARRISBURG, Pa. ? Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett plans to attend a memorial service for former Penn State football coach Joe Paterno at a church in Harrisburg.

Corbett's office says the governor doesn't plan to make remarks at the Wednesday afternoon tribute, organized by Harrisburg-area alumni.

The late coach's son Scott is scheduled to speak on behalf of the family, and former Penn State players are expected to attend.

It's being held at the Cathedral Parish of Saint Patrick, a Roman Catholic church in downtown Harrisburg.

Paterno died last month after a brief battle with lung cancer. He had been fired as coach in November following child-sex abuse charges filed against former assistant Jerry Sandusky.

Thousands attended a public memorial for the 85-year-old coach at Penn State's Bryce Jordan Center following his burial.

33. @ritsfata Yes, but the few who fall in love with the show matter. Plenty of people just skip through the show to the songs they like regardless of who?s singing them (my family), but if Nick got even one person to fall in love with Les Mis, that?s a good thing.
    I?m not saying I agree with the casting (there are plenty of actors I would have preferred), I just said that what they wanted him to do worked, and it?s a good thing, because if it hadn?t worked he would? have been even more pointless.
